Cold outside

This very moment it is not really warm outside... And that is why I wanted to show you the popular Maes commercial. This is a commercial of a Belgium Beer, not really popular in foreign countries but in Belgium is it pretty popular.

That is not what this is all about, I just wanted to show everyone this commercial, because I think it is funny and that makes it a nice commercial!

Enjoy watching it!

Office filled with balloons!

Heineken presented a new campaign in Brazil a few weeks ago. The aim of the campaign is to get more fans in Brazil by following the principle 1 like is 1 incentive. For every Brazilian user who likes the Heineken Facebook page, one balloon is blown up and put in an office of Heineken. The page has already gained thousands of new likes in just a few days and you can probably imagine the result...

Watch the video below for an example, hopefully you speak Portuguese!

Maybe an idea for Stella or Jupiler?

Cheers,

Dominique

They should have used Google before naming their beer!

Hi Beerlovers,

I just came across this little funny story. Most of you probably know how important the productname is for the positioning in the market, product awareness etc. And most of the marketers will put some work in the creative process of naming their product. But not all of them...

Ov-ral is a beer brewed in Copenhagen, Denmark. It's a beer with 10.5% alcohol and has a aroma combination of caramel malt, banana and pine.

The beer was doing very well in Denmark and the brewery wanted to export Ov-ral to America. But they should have done some research first. Because Ov-ral is already a contraception in the US. What would you do if you order a beer and get a pill instead? ;)

What do you guys think? Is it a fail or maybe a strategy of the brewery?
I know if I would look twice before buying it! ;)

Enjoy your day,

Cheers,

William Lawson: no rules, great Scotch!

Let's make an exception... and talk about William Lawson. Everyone knows the whiskey brand and probably because of its amazing television commercials! I am sure that almost everyone will agree with me on this one; the advertising campaigns of this whiskey brand are awesome. They always know perfectly how to reach the consumers and the public in general.

Every year there is a competition for the best advertising campaign of the year and every time William Lawson is part of the selected commercials and it already won the prize of Best Commercial several times. That is why I really want to share these commercials with you! AND of course there is an additional reason... Girls, enjoy it!

Prepare for war!

Hello readers,

Skol, the Brazilian beer has a new tag line: “Prepare for the war”. For this occasion they made a commercial named 'training'.

In the commercial, soldiers are trying to bring different 'dangerous' situations with a funny touch to a good end. Watch for yourself.

I think it's a pretty entertaining commercial for the beer. Skol is know for their funny and sexy advertising. Below you can find one of them. If you want to see more of their advertising you can Google them!

Bud light and killer commercials

After today we are already half way, only two more days and you can enjoy the weekend! In the meanwhile I will entertain you with some really good Bud Light commercials. It is often proved that a commercial does not have to take long time to be effective and this is what Bud does. They keep it KISS; 'keep it short and simple' as they often say in marketing.

And by the way girls, its Bud Light so less calories! Did someone already drank it? I am curious what the beer tastes like, so let me know! If someone recommends it I will certainly try it!

Enjoy your Wednesday evening with a beer and some football (probably)!

Cheers,

Dominique

Bavaria: Cultural commercial differences

Let's take a closer look at Bavaria Beer 0,0% alcohol beer and their advertisement in different continents.
Mali (Africa)

Simple advertisement without too much to think about. A case of beer drops down from a truck, a little boy picks it up and makes sure it reaches its destination. African music, very social.
I do find it kind of strange that they use a child to bring the beer to the crowd, even if it's 0,0% alcohol. But I would have chosen an adult.

USA

In the USA and Western Europe they use Celeb Charlie Sheen to endorse the Bavaria 0,0%
As you might or might not know, Charlie Sheen has been in the spotlight for excessive use of alcohol during his time of 2 and a half men.

By using a real life topic, which is rather serious (alcohol addiction), in a funny way with a celebrity that admits he was wrong and who is known for his humor, Bavaria did a good job to promote their 0,0% beer.
A good PR stunt from Charlie Sheen as well as he wants to be in the positive spotlight

Big differences in approaching the target market in different countries/continents.

Monday - "Did You Know Facts" Part 2

Hello BeerOhBeer fans,

As promised, the next part of the "did you know facts".
So take a beer and enjoy these facts about the most precious drink in the world.

Did you know...

...That in the middle ages is was very hard to find healthy and clean water, so many people chose to drink beer instead of dirty water because the alcohol made it safer to drink?

...If you would drink alcohol on an empty stomach it would get you drunk faster because the alcohol is obsorbed more quickly?

...Frank Zappa once said "You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline, it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer"?

...That around 90% of beer sold in the UK, is produced in the UK?

...That at any given time, 0.7% of the worlds population is drunk? Cheers to that!

...Your body can break down one alcoholic drink in about one hour?

That's it for this week!
See you next Monday with another episode of 'Did you know facts'!

Cheers,

Heineken - Beer Lipgloss

Heineken has launched a lipgloss with beer taste a while ago. Is this a way to reach a new target group or just a marketing action. I don't think many women would want to walk around all day with the taste of beer on their lips. On the marketing side on the other hand this is indeed a good move. Many people have/will talk about it which creates awareness for the brand. Below you'll find the commercial:

Has annyone tried it? What are your views?

Jonathan

Carlton draught: Big Ad

Carlton Draught's Big Ad was big and expensive but absolutely brilliant!

I'm not going to spoil anything for you, so just take a seat, relax and watch thr Really Big Ad! Below the ad you can read some more information about the ad.

This ad was filmed in Queenstown, New Zeeland in 2005 by director Paul Middleditch, who had already done some funny Hahn Beer commercials and won an Outstanding Funny TV Commercial at the Australian comedy awards in 2003. (funny as hell, will make a blogpost of them within a few days)

But it was Andrew Lesnie, director of photography, known for his work for Lord of the Rings, that really made sure the ad gives you the goosebumps. It does look a lot like a Lord of the Rings setting, doesn't it?

Dramatic surroundings needed support of a dramatic song. Hello there O Fortuna - Carmina Burana! The perfect match was born

By the way, only 300 actors were used to represent 3000 actors, got to love technology!

Those Australians sure are creative and funny.

Keep the beer flowing!

Don't forget the UK!

Before coming to the UK, I never thought one second about British beers. After one month, I know now that Carling is an English beer and that some of their commercials are too funny not to share them with you! Of course a commercial cannot always be funny, so that's why I also added a few other good commercials from the beer!

I really like the first commercial that is posted below, who does not want this man?!

Enjoy Valentine's Day!

Cheers,

Dominique

A new view on the beer brewing process

Hahn Super Dry, a beer brewed by Hahn Brewery has a different view on the brewing process then other beer companies. With a litte idiotic touch they made a very nice and entertaining commercial for their beer.

Let us know what you think about the commercial and if you think you have a commercial worth sharing on the Beer oh Beer blog, let us know!3

Monday - "Did You Know Facts" Part 1

So let's kick of every monday with some interesting beer "did you know facts":

Did you know...

...There are over 2,000 different beer brands available in the UK and over 1.5 million pints a day are exported to    over 120 different countries?

...George Washington owned and brewed his own brewery?

...Cenosillicaphobia is fear of an empty glass. My advice? Always order 2 beers at a time!

...The prohibition in the United states lasted 13 years, 10 months, 19 days, 17 hours and 32,5 minutes. It was president Roosevelt who made alcohol back legal. When he did so, one of the first things he said was "What America needs now is a drink"

...That beer contains female hormones?

That's all for now folks, Tune back in on the next monday for another episode of "Did You Know Facts".

Cheers,

Tim Dirven

Carlton Draught Tingle

Have you ever got that feeling that you're working too hard and barely had time to go out and enjoy a night with your friends at the pub?

Well I think everybody knows that feeling...

Carlton Draught, one of Australia's most popular sold tap beers, knows the feeling as well and has been creative enough to translate it into the ''Carlton Draught Tingle'' (2010)

The Foster group decided not to launch the ad on TV because it could be offensive to the general public. Instead they launched it through online media, which proved to be a way more succesful.

1. TV advertising has some restrictions concerning language, sexual implications, ... while online media is freer.
2. The Foster Group can reach their target group more efficiently

To support their main ad they also produced four 16 second ads, called the any excuse series. You can watch them below!

The next one is my favourite!! :-)

3 big cheers for their humor!!

Over and out!

Charly
